Position Description

TITLE: ​Intern for Student Ministries
This is a paid Internship lasting one year.

This will be a 20-25 hour a week Internship


Working under the direction of the Pastor of Student Ministries and in cooperation with the staff team, the Youth Intern will provide support to ministries of students 6th through 12th grade and their families at South Albany Community Church. This position will support ministry to students and families that meets this group’s spiritual needs. This ministry works with, as well as complements, the overall ministry of the church.


Working in partnership with their families, develop students spiritually to help them become disciples who make disciples.


  • Programming, Leadership and Oversight: ​Youth Intern will implement a compelling vision and strategy for Student Ministry, set challenging goals, and then purposefully execute these through ministry programming – including curriculum, lessons, materials, and activities. Programming will include regular activities during mid-week programming during the school year. This will also include special outreach events to the families of the church and community and periodic all-church events. (45% of time – Essential)
  • Team Development: ​ Youth Intern will assist in recruiting, equipping, documenting, mobilizing, supervising, and encouraging a team to implement the Middle School Ministry strategy. (30% of time – Essential)
  • Administration:​ In addition to program and volunteer administration, the Youth Intern will ensure all other financial oversight, oversight of safety and facility, budget preparation, record keeping, calendar keeping, coordination, and publicity regarding Student School Ministry. $15 dollars and below is ok for reimbursement without pre-approval. Anything over will need approval from Pastor of Student Ministry. (10% of time – Essential)
  • Staff Team Partnership: Youth Intern will work closely with the Pastor of Student Ministries and the other Ministry Staff at South Albany Community Church to ensure strategic mobilization and cohesiveness of the body. (5% of time)
  • Parent/Family Ministry: ​ Youth Intern will actively engage parents in the ministry to their students through effective communication, involvement in baptisms and child dedications, and family faith-building opportunities. (10% of time)

  • Ministry Calling:

Youth Intern will be an individual called to full-time vocational ministry, deeply committed to the local church, and passionate about ministry to children, youth, and families.

  • Christian Character

Youth Intern will have exemplary Christian Character including a vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a proven track record of integrity in personal and family life, interpersonal relationships, and local church life.

  • Education and Experience

Student Ministry Intern will be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in theology and/or ministry and experience in youth ministry settings.

The Youth Intern will serve under the direction and supervision of the Pastor of Student Ministries. The Youth Intern will answer to the Senior Pastor. They will coordinate with leaders from Student Ministries.
They will receive a formal, written performance evaluation at the conclusion of 90 days of employment, and annually thereafter.
