Job Description:

Pastoral Assistant for Student Ministries

Report to: Lead Pastor 

Qualifications:

  • 1. Born-again, baptized evangelical Christian.
  • 2. Member of Gresham Bible Church, maintaining the commitments of church membership.
  • 3. One who exhibits a growing relationship with Christ, a teachable spirit, and disciplined life.
  • 4. An engaging teacher, with a strong biblical and theological background; who is in full agreement with GBC's doctrinal statement.
  • 5. One with a demonstrated giftedness for student ministries, love for youth, and passion for evangelism and outreach.
  • 6. A self motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, possessing relational skills with a diversity of students, parents, and leaders.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Student Ministries:

  • a. Lead and organize youth programs (grades 6-12). This includes Sunday evening and Monday evening gatherings, retreats, missions trips, and special events.
  • b. Recruit, train, and shepherd volunteers with diverse gifts and personalities.
  • c. Provide counsel and spiritual direction to students on an individual basis.
  • d. Maintain contact with students and parents; keeping them informed of ongoing activities. Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement.
  • e. Assist in the development and oversight of the student ministries budget; also manage student fees for events and trips.
  • f. Seek to integrate student ministries into all phases of church life to help create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational; striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
  • g. Do the work of an evangelist by building relationships with students and faculty in area middle schools and high schools.
  • h. Ensure that a safety protocol is followed for events and in all settings
    • i. Other duties as required.

2. Operations

  • a. Work with church staff to maintain an orderly and clean flex space (suite 110).
  • b. Work alongside church staff to help facilitate smooth Sunday morning operations.
  • c. Other duties as required

Expectations:

  • 1. Grow GBC's student ministry in meaningful ways.
  • 2. Weekly one hour one-on-one mentoring by the lead pastor so he may provide encouragement, direction, support, and challenge you toward holiness and righteousness.
  • 3. Attend all GBC services and events.
  • 4. Present semi-annual ministry updates and goals for the coming year to the lead pastor.
  • 5. Participate in a yearly job performance review.
  • 6. Present an annual student ministries budget proposal.
  • 7. Stay current with student ministries practices by reading, attending youth leadership conferences, etc.
  • 8. Be available to students in a variety of ways (i.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, etc...).
  • 9. Do ministry as a team.
