Emergency Preparedness

Emergencies and natural disasters can happen anytime and anywhere so being prepared is critical. The Pacific Northwest is not immune to severe weather emergencies, earthquakes, volcanoes, terror attacks, etc…. In fact, no region is. At Corban, campus safety authorities work together throughout the year to continually assess and enhance our ability to respond quickly and effectively, day or night. During serious emergencies, a variety of critical functions will be activated to protect life, disseminate information, stabilize the incident, and restore normal operations.

During serious emergencies, all information releases must come from our marketing and communications office. Information will be available through some or all of the following channels depending on the specific nature of the situation:

  • Public Information Center (When ICS system is operational this location will be announced immediately)

Here are some important steps you can take to be better prepared for emergencies:

  • Become familiar with this website and our emergency response manual.
  • Take a few moments now to identify evacuation routes, and potential hazards to avoid.
  • Take a first aid/CPR course offered on campus.
  • Identify the phone number of a contact person outside of Salem to act as a communication link with your family.
  • Consider putting together a personal emergency kit, including:
    • Food and water
    • Plastic eating utensils,
    • Basic first aid supplies
    • A flashlight
    • A battery powered radio and spare batteries
    • Whistle
    • Change of clothes
    • Enclosed shoes
    • Gloves
    • Spare eye-glasses, prescription medication
    • Plastic garbage bags
    • Blanket
    • Personal hygiene items.
    • Keep a mini survival kit in your car and adequate fuel in your car in case gas stations are damaged.
